At its core, Under the skin is a moral story and asks the question of what makes us human. It might be considered a books concerning animal activism but I don't think this was the objective. It is more of a discussion about identity, alienation, perception of humanity. Ultimately, the conclusion is that we are all the same under the skin. A genuinely weird and haunting little SF/horror/art flick that does get under one's skin. It stars Scarlett Johansson as an alluring but deadly creature of some kind. She roams around dull sections of urban Scotland in a plain van, picking up solitary men and doing something very strange to them.

Under the Skin is an unconventional and challenging sci-fi/horror film. It is a cinematically stunning, disturbing and innovative UK film directed by Jonathan Glazer that exemplifies the exciting artistry currently working within UK film. As it is not a mainstream film it will stretch UNDER THE SKIN | The Definitive Explanation. The title Under the Skin is a crucial clue to what's happening in the movie. It gets at the idea of looking beneath the surface. At going beyond appearance. It's similar to the popular idiom, "Don't judge a book by its cover.". A book with a great cover could contain an underwhelming story. The movie starts in 1914 with a young weather observer who travels to a remote island to work for one year. Soon he finds the previous weather observer is missing. There remains only the caretaker of the lighthouse named Gruner. The captain suggests the newcomer leave with him, but he decides to stay. Like so, the captain left him for one year. NQPuN.
